Best Day of the Week for a Wedding

Best Day for a Wedding - Hire a DJ.

What day of the week do you plan to get married? Based on our experience, Saturday is by far the most popular. However, in 2015 and 2016, it seems that more couples are choosing other days. Friday and Sunday are the most popular second choices. Let’s talk about what is best for you, and why.

Saturday can be a challenge to book a venue, photographer, DJ, or other vendor. It stands to reason, as most couples still prefer Saturday. You are competing for that one day of the week, with many other couples. If you are willing to be flexible, you can possibly get the vendors you want by getting married a different day of the week.

Additionally, you can often find discounts by getting married on a day other than Saturday. As an Atlanta wedding DJ, I can book a Saturday party, dance, or wedding very easily at my standard rates. However, I often have weeknights available. In some cases, I would be willing to book those nights at a lower price. Some money is often better than no money.

You may be able to have a “long weekend” to start your honeymoon, if you get married on a Thursday or Friday. Of course, this is dependent on your boss cooperating. However, if they are not “The Grinch”, they may be willing to let you go an extra day or two at the end of the week, especially for such a momentous occasion as your wedding! Hey, it doesn’t hurt to ask.

However, keep a couple of potential snags in mind.

Most people will not be able to get off work for someone else’s wedding. This can make it difficult for any guests who have to travel from out-of-town. It can also be difficult for those who have children in school, as they may not be able to pick up the kids, feed them, get homework done, and still have time to come to your weeknight wedding.

A weekday Atlanta wedding has it’s own concerns. This is due to the well-known nightmare of Atlanta traffic. Unless you are having an evening wedding, your guests could have real challenges during the week, because of the commute.

One idea may be to have a small ceremony on whatever day of the week you prefer, then a party on the weekend. This is great if you want to get married on the anniversary of your first date, or the anniversary of when you met, etc. It also allows more of your guests to attend the party / reception on the weekend. Depending on your circumstances, this could be a very workable compromise.
